South Padre Island is a barrier island located at the southern tip of Texas. We are the same latitude as Miami, Florida and enjoy a similar year round climate in a more casual atmosphere. From the southernmost part of the island to the cut at Port Mansfield, the island is about 35 miles long. Approximately 5-6 miles have been developed, and the rest is just waiting to happen. We are somewhat undiscovered, and as a result our real estate prices are considerably lower than in other coastal areas. We call it the opportunity of a lifetime. The skies are blue, the water is tropical turquoise, the dunes are stately, and the sandy beaches are pristine. We invite you to come check us out.
The city of South Padre Island is accessed by causeway from Port Isabel and makes up the southern five miles of the island. The island is narrow, in most places less than half a mile wide, so you are close to water wherever you go. There are between 2500 and 5000 residents, depending on how you count them. We share what we believe is some of the best life has to offer, and though we don't have the dramatic change of seasons like other parts of the country, we experience our changes by the visitors who come and go like the seasons.
In the winter, we have the Winter Texans who come from the northern states to enjoy our warm subtropical weather. In the summer we have vacationing families. For one or two weeks in March, we have spring breakers. In October we have bikers and sand castle builders. In February we have kiters. Things are always changing, and we roll with it. We do enjoy the few weeks out of the year when it is mostly residents and we can take a breather and get to know each other better.
